Mitch Ditkoff’s 14 Ways to get Breakthrough Ideas is basically his ideas of how to help other people become inspired and create there own ideas. His first idea is to basically find things that fascinate you and keep up with them so they can inspire you to create your own fascinating ideas. His second idea is to completely immerse yourself in something so that you can learn more about it. The third idea is tolerate ambiguity, which is basically to get used to disappointment because it happens and you have to get past it if you wish to succeed. The fourth idea is make new connections, basically creating new parallels between things that already exist. His fifth idea is to fantasize, so basically thinking of new things that don’t exist which leads to new ideas. His sixth idea define the right challenge, which is to think about what the problem is and find out how to solve it rather than rushing into it. The seventh idea is to listen to your subconscious; this idea is that your conscious overworks itself to find an idea where the subconscious finds new ideas in its own time. His eighth idea is take a break, basically don’t overwork yourself on one thing and switch it up a little. The ninth idea is notice and challenge existing patterns and trends, basically change an old pattern into something new and useful to yourself. The tenth idea is the hang out with diverse groups of people, by hanging out with different groups of people you are surrounded by different thoughts and ideas. The eleventh idea is to brainstorm, basically come up with different ideas with different groups of people. His twelfth idea is look for happy accidents, taking accidental inventions or ideas and making use of them. The thirteenth idea is to use creative thinking techniques, basically by using a creative thinking technique it will help get ideas flowing. The fourteenth and final idea is suspend logic, basically step outside of reality to think of new ideas.

The third idea, tolerate ambiguity, I think is a good idea. If a person can handle failure they will never be able to move on in the real world. By taking your mistakes you can learn from them, and when you fail at something it should be a sign to keep trying and try harder. The seventh idea of listening to your subconscious is a bad suggestion, not everyone has a subconscious where creative ideas just spark from nowhere. Also, waiting for your subconscious isn’t practical. You may need a solution or an idea quickly but your subconscious is too slow to think of one. Here’s an idea, if a mentally unstable person where to follow there subconscious they could end up following a path of crime. The eight idea of taking a break I can agree with, if you get too stressed out over something taking a break from everything and relieving your stress helps. Although by taking a break should only be for ten to fifteen minutes I would say otherwise you may get off track.

For the fifth idea question my response would be that a current challenge of mine would be keeping up with all of my readings and homework. A fantasy solution to this challenge would be that everything I need to know would be planted into my brain so I would just automatically know the information. The clues this fantasy solution gives me is that a device as such does not currently exist and I just need to read and keep up with all of my work.
