I believe the type of creative person I am is someone that craft things. I enjoy making bracelets and necklaces out of hemp, woodworking, and just any crafting projects I can get my hands on. I am inspired by a band called Between the Buried and Me. The people in this band that influence me the most would be the lead singer and bassist, Tommy Giles Rogers and Dan Briggs.

Selkies: The Endless Obsession is a song from their third album Alaska. This song is a good example of tension and release. During the beginning of the song it starts out without a lot of tension, as the song progresses tension builds with instrumentation and the vocals. Three are so many sounds coming from each instrument and the yelling from the vocals adds to the tension. Then about midway through there is a release when the music slows and gets softer. The drumming is quieted down to a simple tap on the symbol, and the vocals are no longer yelling. Then the vocals eventually cut out and the music continues at a softer pace until the song ends. This song has to be one of my top favorites; it makes me feel relaxed when the tension is released.

The song Swim To The Moon is off of their newest album, The Great Misdirect, my personal favorite. This song also contains tension and release. Most of their songs seem to. Other than tension and release, it also contains contrast and affinity. At the start of the vocals, there are two different sounding voices. One is the regular vocals throughout all of their music; the other voice is from a guest appearance who doesn’t sing as heavily. These two voices contrast each other because one is a heavy screaming while the other voice is less intense. These two vocals seem like they yell back at each other during the beginning. The vocals affinity with each other because, although somewhat different, they are still intense. The song also contains affinity with heavy music along with heavy singing. This song is also one of my top favorites, although it’s long I still listen to the whole thing whenever I play it.

The video Obfuscation is also from their latest album. This music video has active and didactic qualities. The video is an older setting with a circus and a suburban family. I don’t know how this video ties to the music or lyrics, but I usually don’t know the meanings behind their songs. Active qualities to this video could be the quite numerable. The audience could make up with own mind of why the family is at the circus, what is going on when the magician puts the girl in the box and where she goes, what the girl is throwing up, and why there is a man shooting people. Didactic qualities would be there is a family at the circus, the time period is 1959 in Texas, there’s a man shooting people, and that the man is the boy from another dimension. Also, the ending would be active, the audience gets to decide whether the boy was dreaming or not. This is a good song and video, their other videos haven’t quite been as good in my opinion.
