The image by Salvador Dali and the cropped version are AFFINITY with each other when it comes to LINE & SHAPE and SPACE. Both images CONTRAST with each other when it comes to the type of framing. When it comes to line and shape both images have circular shapes that are arranged so that the circles line up with each other. In the original there is a background shape that looks like a woman, in the close up there is not enough to tell there is a picture. The picture of the woman is OBJECTIVE while the surrounding circle and who the woman is are SUBJECTIVE. The space of the image is very deep, while the cropped version is still deep it is not quite as deep. The FRAMING of the original picture would be a close up shot because it is mainly the focus of the woman’s face. In the cropped version it would be an extreme close up of the woman’s lips if anyone could tell at first glance. I enjoy this image because it reminds me of figure-ground images which I think are interesting.

In Seth Godin’s “Brainwashed," the layer of Acknowledging the Lizard talks about the part of the brain that is concerned with being laughed at. He talks about a "resistance" that is like a voice in your head that tells you to not do something because of the risk of failing. He talks about acknowledging the lizard so that you can ignore it and do the things that it prevents you from doing.
In Seth Godin's layer Ship he states how scarcity leads to value because people pay more for things that are harder to get. So the ability to ship things are what can make something scarce. He says how the ability to ship is controlled by the lizard brain telling you that you may fail. So by ignoring the lizard you can ship, getting things done.
These two layers are in some way connected to this blog because we have to ignore the lizard in order to get the courage to post your own thoughts. Then you have to ship, or actually write in the blog and post it in order to get it done. These various exercises probably do make people better students, given that they actually put the exercises into effect and take important things from them.

A song that I enjoy that has been covered by another band is Depeche Mode’s “Enjoy the Silence” which has been covered by the band Lacuna Coil. Both versions are similar yet there are some musical quality differences.
LYRICS
The lyrics in each version of this song are essentially the same. In the Lacuna Coil version there is a repetition of the line “enjoy the silence” during the last minute of the song, this CONTRASTS with the Depeche Mode version because the last minute is purely instrumental. The only other contrast between the two versions is that the vocals in Depeche Mode are male and in Lacuna Coil there are female vocals. Otherwise the two versions AFFINITY with each other due to the closeness of the actual lyrics.
MUSICAL QUALITY
The RHYTHM of these two songs seems to AFFINITY with each other due to the speed at which the lyrics are sung and the slowness of the instrumentation. The intensity of the Lacuna Coil version CONTRASTS with the Depeche Mode version by being slightly more INTENSE with its instrumentation. In the Lacuna Coil version the instrumentation is typical guitars, drums, and possibly a violin; where the Depeche Mode version contains guitars, drums, and synth sounds. In Lacuna Coil’s version the PITCH of the guitar is lower than in Depeche Mode’s version. Both versions are organized in the same format, Lacuna Coil basically did an almost exact copy of the original.
The version that I would say I like better would probably be the Lacuna Coil version, it has a heavier feel in the instrumentation and I think it goes well with the lyrics. I really like both versions but Depeche Mode's version has more of a techno sound to it that I don't always like.
